Women’s Tennis SCIAC Tournament Preview

Luisa Garcia and Anya Rajan
Cal Lutheran women's tennis qualified for the SCIAC Tournament Semifinals for the first time since 2016 after finishing fourth in the conference behind a 3-3 SCIAC record and a 7-7 overall record.

#4 Cal Lutheran
The Regals ended their season with a huge road victory over Caltech last Saturday to clinch the 4-seed and push the Beavers just out of a conference tournament berth. Led by senior Carmen Bufkin (#3 in the West Region), Cal Lutheran will look to pull off a couple of upsets to capture the SCIAC title. The Regals' three conference losses are to the three teams ahead of them, giving them a chip on their shoulders entering the semifinals.

#1 Pomona-Pitzer
The Sagehens went undefeated in SCIAC play after beating CMS in a 4-3 nailbiter on Saturday evening. They are led by Angie Zhou (#1), and behind her are three more players ranked in the top-9. Pomona-Pitzer is the defending SCIAC champion.

#2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
The Athenas finished 5-1 in the SCIAC after their battle with Pomona-Pitzer. Lindsay Eisenman (#5) is the top-ranked player for CMS, followed by three more in the top-12. CMS won the SCIAC Tournament in 2023.

#3 Redlands
The Bulldogs ended conference play with a 4-2 record, with losses only to Pomona-Pitzer and CMS. Redlands and Cal Lutheran competed in an extremely close match on April 12 in Redlands, with the Bulldogs coming out victorious by a score of 4-3. Led by Maegan Deng (#3), Redlands has one additional player in the top-20.
