PASADENA, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's tennis defeated Caltech 4-3 on the road on Saturday morning, with
Evelyn Oltmans clinching for the Regals in her singles match. With the victory, Cal Lutheran secured the #4 seed in the SCIAC Tournament, marking its first trip to the semifinals since 2016.
The Regals fell behind momentarily in doubles as
Kylee Limpias/Oltmans lost their set 6-2 in the #2 spot. The other Cal Lutheran pairings battled out a couple of impressive victories, with the duos of
Anya Rajan/
Luisa Garcia and
Mina Ahmadi/
Carmen Bufkin both claiming 7-5 victories in the #3 and #1 spots, respectively.
In the #1 doubles spot in their senior season, veterans Ahmadi/Bufkin went 10-4 as one of the best duos in the West Region. Rajan/Garcia played well in the #3 spot in 2025, going 7-3 as partners.
With those two clutch wins, the Regals would enter singles play up 1-0.
In the #4 singles spot, Limpias dropped her match 6-0, 6-1. She now sits at .500 in singles with a 6-6 record this spring.
Gerda Jucys fell 6-0, 6-2 in the #3 spot as the Regals fell behind 2-1 in the match.
Picking up the slack in the #2 spot was Rajan, who dominated all morning on her way to a 6-2, 6-2 victory. She ends the 2025 regular season with a 6-7 singles record, but this win gives her some much-needed momentum heading into the conference championships.
Continuing her dominant senior season out of the #1 spot, Bufkin blew past the #14-ranked player in the West Region by a score of 6-2, 6-0. She is now 12-1 this spring.
With the Regals needing just one more point to secure the match, Oltmans claimed the first set in a tiebreak before a comfortable second set gave her a 7(7)-6(4), 6-3 victory in the #6 spot. The first-year Regal came up big when her team needed it, clinching the match and sending Cal Lutheran to the SCIAC Tournament for the first time since the format changed to four teams.
Oltmans finishes an impressive freshman regular season with an 8-5 singles record in 2025.
In the #5 spot, Garcia was defeated after winning an intense first-set tiebreak. The final score was 6(7)-7(9), 6-0, 6-4. Garcia ends the regular season at .500 with a 7-7 record this spring.
Cal Lutheran will enter the SCIAC Tournament at 7-7 overall and 3-3 in conference this year. The Regals will await the winner of the CMS vs. Pomona-Pitzer matchup on Saturday evening, as the winner will be the #1 seed and will host Cal Lutheran.
The SCIAC Semifinals will take place the evening of Wednesday, April 30.
