PASADENA, Calif. — The Regals' offensive outburst led them to victory over the Caltech Beavers on Wednesday night, 20-5.
Cal Lutheran scored nine goals in the third quarter, which ultimately sealed the win for the Purple & Gold. Graduate Students
Bethany Metcalfe and
Katie Knight led the way, scoring 11 combined goals with six and five, respectively.
Knight notched three goals in the first quarter as a part of the Regals five scores.
Reyna Clark and
Megan Findlay also added to the scoring with a goal each. The Regals started the second quarter with a 5-2 advantage and kept things rolling. Goals from Metcalfe,
Natalie Favazzo, and
Chloe Gardhouse increased Cal Lutheran's lead to 8-3 before the half.
As a part of the Regals' nine goals in the third, Metcalfe was unstoppable with six of them. That gave Cal Lutheran a nice cushion heading into the fourth quarter., but the Regals wouldn't end there. They recorded three more goals in the period and capped off the 20-5 win.
The victory moves the Regals into fourth place in the SCIAC standings as they look to make a run at the SCIAC Tournament. Cal Lutheran will take on the number one seed Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens in their last game of the regular season at home on Saturday, April 19, at 11:00 a.m.
