ORANGE, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's water polo rallied for a comeback victory over the Chapman Panthers, capped off by a game-winner from
Chloe Gardhouse. The win currently lands the Regals the last SCIAC Tournament spot as they sit in fifth place.
Katie Knight had another multi-goal game with four goals and two steals, while five other Regals also scored. Goalie
Izzy de Souza saved 11 shots and was a brick wall in the cage.
The Panthers shut out Cal Lutheran in the first quarter by a score of 2-0, and then scored a quick goal to begin the second. In response,
Waileia Lee and
Lauren Lohmeier scored back-to-back goals to cut the lead to 3-2. The half ended at 4-4 tie, as Knight beat the goalie for her first goal of the game and
Reyna Clark added another one in crunch time.
At the start of the third quarter, Chapman took a 5-4 lead, but Knight scored three-straight goals to give the Regals a 7-5 advantage. The Panthers tied the game back up at eight, but in the last 30 seconds, Gardhouse ripped a shot into the back of the cage to win the game for the Purple & Gold.
The Regals will travel to Caltech on Wednesday, April 16, at 7:00 p.m. as they look to keep they tournament birth alive with just two regular season games remaining.
