THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's tennis hosted Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday evening, dropping its first conference match of the spring season.
Carmen Bufkin kept her singles record unblemished in 2025, but the Athenas were too much for the Regals, winning 6-1.
CMS entered the matchup ranked #2 in the nation by ITA, presenting a huge test for Cal Lutheran, who has been enjoying a successful season. The Athenas boasted the #2 and #5 regionally-ranked duos and four singles players ranked in the top-15 regionally.

Luisa Garcia dropped their set 6-3 in the #3 spot, which secured the doubles team point for CMS. In the #1 spot,

Carmen Bufkin were defeated 6-4. The Athenas would enter the singles matches up 1-0.
Ford lost her match 6-0, 6-0 in the #3 spot. Garcia was defeated 6-3, 6-0 in the #5 spot. Competing in the #6 spot,
Evelyn Oltmans dropped her match 6-1, 6-3. With that, CMS clinched the match victory. Limpias lost in the #4 spot 6-2, 6-2.
Bufkin continued her dominance of every opponent she has faced all season, calmly beating the #9-ranked player in the West Region 6-2, 6-2. Bufkin entered the match ranked #7. The Athenas have been a powerhouse in tennis for multiple decades, so this win was huge for Cal Lutheran women's tennis. Bufkin's triumph was the first individual match victory for the Regals over CMS since April 4, 2014.
With that win, Bufkin is now 10-0 in 2025 and on pace for one of the greatest individual seasons in Cal Lutheran history.
Rajan battled in her match in the #2 spot, taking the first set to tiebreak, but she eventually fell 7(7)-6(4), 6-0. CMS claimed a 6-1 victory, dropping the Regals to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in the SCIAC.
The Regals have a quick turnaround, traveling to Redlands tomorrow for an afternoon match at 2pm.
