Regals Tame Tigers for Second SCIAC Win

Evelyn Oltmans
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's tennis went on the road to Occidental on Tuesday evening and won its second-straight conference match to open SCIAC play. The Regals carried their momentum from a strong weekend into their match against the Tigers, winning by a score of 5-2.

Cal Lutheran trotted out the usual doubles lineup, consisting of Mina Ahmadi/Carmen Bufkin, Kylee Limpias/Maddy Ford, and Anya Rajan/Luisa Garcia.

Playing in the #2 spot, Limpias/Ford were defeated 6-2. They had won their previous two doubles matches, but this loss brought the duo to 5-4 in 2025.

Rajan/Garcia were able to pick up a win out of the #3 spot, 6-4. They have been unbeatable as partners all season, as they moved to 6-0 when playing together this spring. Rajan is 8-0 in doubles matches since February.

In the deciding match in the #1 spot, Ahmadi/Bufkin secured a 6-4 victory. They are now 8-1 together this season after clinching to give Cal Lutheran the team doubles point.

Bufkin quickly continued her success in singles, taking the #1 match 6-1, 6-1. She still has not been beaten in 2025, climbing to 9-0 in 10 matches since the calendar flipped–her match against UC Santa Cruz went unfinished.

Garcia, the reigning SCIAC Athlete of the Week, kept on rolling in the #5 spot, winning 6-2, 6-1 and putting the Regals up 3-0 in the match. Garcia is now 6-4 in singles after winning her two most recent matches, both within the SCIAC.

Ford dropped her match 6-2, 6-1 in the #3 spot as Occidental made its first appearance on the scoreboard.

A gritty second set propelled Evelyn Oltmans to clinch the overall match for Cal Lutheran, as she won in the #6 spot by a score of 6-2, 7-5. After losing her two previous matches, including a competitive third-set tiebreak, Oltmans got back on track, bringing her season singles record to 6-3.

Limpias toughed out a tight first set en route to a 7-5, 6-3 victory in the #4 spot. Like Oltmans, she returned to the win column after a couple of tough losses. She is now 6-2 in 2025.

Moving to a 10-point third-set tiebreak due to the Regals having already clinched, Rajan was defeated 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 in a battle out of the #2 spot. She has traded wins and losses in her past five matches and now sits at 5-4 in singles this year.

Cal Lutheran continued its impressive start to SCIAC play, now 2-0 in conference and 6-4 overall. Whittier will visit Thousand Oaks this Saturday, April 5 to take on the Regals at 2pm.
