Kingsmen Sweep Three-Game Series with Rams

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran swept the Cornell College Rams after winning both games of the Saturday doubleheader, 4-3 and 11-6. The Kingsmen had a dramatic, come-from-behind walk off in game one, before their bats got hot for 11 runs in game two.

Leo Bristow started the morning contest for Cal Lutheran and pitched six scoreless innings. Frank Willius pitched one and one-thirds, recording four strikeouts and picking up the win.

The Kingsmen defense kept them within striking distance all game long. With a runner on second in the top of the third, first-baseman Sebastian Smith was outstretched and snagged what would have been an RBI single for the Rams out of the sky, keeping the game at 0-0. Later on, Bristow found himself in a jam in the top of the fourth but was able to strike out the last batter to keep the game tied.

Jacob Rosenfeld reached on an error that scored Smith and Daniel Orozco for the first runs of the game. Cornell was able to take a 3-2 lead in the eighth off a two-run homer and an RBI single.

In a crucial at-bat in the bottom of the ninth inning, Josh Quinn was able to tie things up with a clutch RBI double down the left-field line. Alec Garcia called game with a sacrifice fly to center field to walk it off.

The Kingsmen capped off the series sweep with an offensive explosion. They got things started in the first with a bases-loaded RBI double from Lucas Danielewicz before two more runs were tacked on in the inning. In the second, Danielewicz roped another double into the outfield to drive in Garcia, increasing the lead to 5-1. For the third inning in a row, Danielewicz smoked another RBI double to take a 7-1 advantage.

The Rams mounted a comeback in the fifth, finding themselves within just one run. However, the Kingsmen shut it down with a sac-fly from Zach Gardner and an RBI triple from Orozco to conclude the 11-run outburst.

Danielewicz led the way with three doubles and five RBIs. Garcia and Jona Dawson also had two-hit games.

Cal Lutheran moves to 8-2 on the season, and will take on Franklin and Marshall College at home on Monday, March 10, at 3:00 p.m.
