THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The first contest of the three-game set between the Kingsmen and the Cornell College Rams featured an offensive masterclass and a gem from
Luke Wechsler.
Wechsler threw seven complete innings while striking out ten batters, and
Joshua Kim and
Frank Willius pitched the last two innings to complete the shutout.
The first four innings were knotted up at 0-0 until the Kingsmen found life in the fifth, thanks to a sacrifice fly from
Carlos Vega to drive in
Jacob Rosenfeld. Rosenfeld led the inning off with a triple in his first start of the season. Another sac fly in the form of Sebastain Smith and a bases-loaded, hit-by-pitch drawn by
Wyatt Crosby increased the Cal Lu lead to 3-0.
The floodgates opened in the eighth for the Kingsmen as they scored six runs. Smith reached on an error to score Lucas Danielwicz, and Rosenfeld lined a single up the middle for an RBI to take a 5-0 advantage. The hitting became contagious as
Eric Gonzalez laced a two-RBI single to right field, followed by a triple from
Josh Quinn. Two more base hits from
Kai Caranto and Danielwicz capped off the 10-0 outburst.
The Kingsmen will continue their Cornell home series tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 11:00 a.m.
