WHITTIER, Calif. – The Regals kicked off their 2025 SCIAC campaign with a blowout win over the Whittier Poets. Cal Lutheran scored no less than three goals per quarter, and eight different Regals found the score sheet.

The Purple & Gold started the game with a hat trick from Katie Knight within the first four minutes. Bethany Metcalfe also added to the Regals' total, but the Poets kept it interesting with three goals at the end of the first quarter. Two more from Metcalfe and a goal from Lauren Lohmeier at the beginning of the second period put Cal Lutheran up 7-3. Later in the quarter, Knight found the back of the net for the fourth time, and Megan Findlay scored to ride a 9-5 lead going into halftime. 

The Regals were not finished, as they dominated the third quarter. Cal Lutheran outscored the Poets five goals to zero, featuring two from first-year Emily Atchison. Hudson Geier and Findlay scored their second goals of the game in the fourth period to cap off the 17-7 win. This is the Regals' second win over Whittier this season.

Reigning SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week, Izzy de Souza, also had six saves for a .708 percentage. Fifth-year Regals Knight and Metcalfe led the way offensively with seven combined goals. 

The Regals start SCIAC play 1-0 and will look to carry their momentum into their next game at home against Chapman at 11:00 a.m.
