LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Cal Lutheran held off a comeback attempt by the Occidental Tigers and took home a 12-11 win. Eight different Regals appeared on the score sheet including dominant center forward
Katie Knight, as she found the back of the cage twice to reach 200 career goals for Cal Lutheran.
Knight opened the game for career goal 199 and the first of the game for the Regals.
Megan Findlay fired a shot past the goalie, then Knight slotted in a five-meter attempt off the post for her 200th career goal.
Chloe Gardhouse wrapped up the first quarter with a goal to put Cal Lutheran up 4-1.
Lauren Lohmeier converted on a five-meter goal to kick off the scoring in the second period and
Clarisa Robles chimed in with a penalty shot of her own. A last-second goal from the Tigers ended the half as the Regals led 6-2.
The third quarter featured ten total goals from the Regals and Tigers. Cal Lutheran and Occidental went back-and-forth three times to start the period with Findlay,
Reyna Clark, and
Bethany Metcalfe converting for the Regals. The Tigers ended the period with three goals to the Regals one with Cal Lutheran still up 10-8.
The Regals found themselves up by just one due to a quick fourth-quarter goal from the Tigers. Gardhouse responded and put Cal Lutheran back up by two. Occidental then scored two unanswered goals, and suddenly the game was tied. In the final 30 seconds of the game, Gardhouse continued to take matters into her own hands and managed to hit the back of the net to win the match for the Regals, 12-11.
Gardhouse's three goals, two assists, and two steals were key to the Regals' win with Knight and Findlay backing her up with two goals each.
Hudson Geier assisted on two goals for Cal Lutheran. Goalies
Izzy de Souza and
Sophie Raquel combined for ten saves and a .444 save percentage.
The Regals are now 4-3 in SCIAC games and are currently sitting in the middle of the standings. Now with two wins in a row, Cal Lutheran will look to keep its momentum going at home against the Redlands Bulldogs on Wednesday, April 2, at 4:00 p.m.
