THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's water polo doubled up the Redlands Bulldogs' 20-10, led by 8 combined goals from
Jacqueline Brandon and
Katie Knight.
Knight and
Chloe Gardhouse set the tone for the match early in the first quarter. They each slotted in two goals past the keeper along with a goal from
Claire Daland to give the Regals a 5-2 advantage.
Hudson Geier earned her two goals in the second period. Her first of the quarter came within the first minute followed by
Clarisa Robles who beat the goalie to put Cal Lutheran up 7-2. Geier's second and Brandon's first goal of four in the game closed out the half for the Regals, up 9-4.
Cal Lutheran erupted in the third quarter for eight goals and put the Bulldogs on a tight leash. Six different Regals rattled the back of the cage featuring three goals from Brandon. Geier and Knight scored goals two and three of the quarter and Daland notched her second score of the game as well. Cal Lutheran led 17-8 by the end of the period. The Regals wrapped the game up in the fourth with three more goals as Robles and Knight added one more to the stat sheet.
The offense was clicking for Cal Lutheran, but so was the defense. Goalie
Shayle Barrus tallied 12 total saves while the Regals as a team stole the ball 14 times, three of which were from Geier. The four goals apiece from Brandon and Knight were the key to success, but would not be possible without 14 assists as Cal Lutheran moved the ball seamlessly.
The Purple & Gold are now 5-3 in conference games and jump into fourth in the SCIAC standings. With three victories in a row, the Regals will carry momentum into their clash at home against the number one seed CMS Athenas on Saturday, April 5 at 11:00 a.m.
