THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – An offensive outburst and lockdown defense in the third quarter led the Regals to a 17-10 victory over the La Verne Leopards. Cal Lutheran scored seven goals in the third and allowed just one.
The Regals were up 2-1 halfway through the first with goals from
Chloe Gardhouse and
Katie Knight. Three consecutive goals from the Leopards and one more from Knight ended the quarter with Cal Lutheran in a 4-3 hole.
La Verne scored early in the second quarter to take a two-goal lead.
Hudson Geier, Knight, and
Bethany Metcalfe scored three unanswered goals to take a 6-5 lead. Two more from Geier and Knight in the quarter allowed the Regals to take an 8-7 advantage into the half.
The floodgates opened for the Regals in the third. Knight started off the scoring with back-to-back goals, and five more Cal Lutheran goals allowed the Regals to blow the game open, 15-8. The Leopards and Regals traded two goals each in the fourth period as the Regals completed a commanding win, 17-10.
Knight led the way with a season-high six goals, while Metcalfe,
Miranda Miller, and
Hudson Geier had two goals each. Geier assisted on five goals and helped the Regals' offense flow.
The Regals will look to stay in the win column as they travel to Occidental on Saturday, March 29, at 11:00 a.m.
