THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Regals scored three goals in the final thirty seconds of gameplay, but it wasn't enough as they fell 16-14 to Whitman on Tuesday evening. 

Cal Lutheran came out of the gate firing, scoring the game's first three goals and leading 4-1 halfway through the first period. 

Whitman would answer with three goals of its own however, evening the contest at 4 apiece. 

Malina Diaz would strike back, sending the Regals into the first break up one. 

Diaz continued her red-hot start to the season, scoring a trio of goals in the first period and six overall, bringing her season total to 33, just one short of the SCIAC lead. 

Whitman would keep up the momentum in the second period, sending the game to halftime with the Regals down 7-5. 

The Regals would come out of the break strong, tying the game 7-7. The tie would be short-lived, however, as Whitman would tack on three more goals to retake the lead 10-7. 

Diaz would add to her total with under 2:30 to go in the third to cut the lead to 10-8 going into the fourth period. 

12 combined goals would be scored in the fourth period, the first four of which would be scored by Whitman to extend its lead to 14-8. 

The Regals would begin to chip away, as they would find themselves down 16-11 with under two minutes to play. 

Cal Lutheran would rip off three goals in thirty seconds, ultimately running out of time, dropping its first contest since the first of the month, 16-14. 

"This game was hard fought and we have a lot of opportunities to learn when we play strong competition like that," said MacEllen McDonough. 

The Regals are back in action at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 21 as they travel to Orange to take on Occidental.
