TACOMA, Wash. – A dominant seven-goal performance from
Malina Diaz will send the Regals home with their fourth straight win, defeating Puget Sound 21-8 on Saturday afternoon.
The win was the Regals' (5-3, 1-3) fourth straight and fifth overall, both single-season program highs.
"I'm proud of them. They have been working hard and making the necessary adjustments for us to earn these wins,"
MacEllen McDonough said.
Diaz, a captain, led the way with seven goals, the third time this season a Regal has reached that mark and the second for Diaz.
It was a record-setting day at the center line for Diaz, whose 11 draw controls marked the most by a player in a single game.
Cal Lutheran wasted no time early, scoring the contest's first five goals, winning the first period 8-4. The 12 combined goals tied a season high for most in a period.
The Regals would sustain the momentum in the second period, outscoring the Loggers (2-5, 0-0) 6-1 behind a trio of goals from
Sydney Shin.
After a 2-2 start to the second half, the Regals would rip off five-straight goals to put them up 14 inside two minutes to go. Puget Sound would net one with about a minute to go, but that would be all she wrote as Cal Lu cruised to its fifth win of the year.
The Regals will return home to play Whitman at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18 in their last non-conference effort of the year.
