THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – No. 7 Cal Lutheran men's volleyball swept the Marian Sabres in the Cal-Lu-Fornia Tournament opener on Thursday night, 25-14, 25-18, 25-23.
It was a happy homecoming for the Kingsmen as the night marked their first official home contest in over two months. The victory brings the squad to an impressive 15-4 record with just eight games remaining in the regular season.
After the win, Head Coach
Kevin Judd expressed his contentment with the Cal Lu attack. "The offense was firing on all cylinders, hitting an impressive .418 on the night, which helped us maintain control of the match," he said.
Jordan Cooper was at the forefront, hitting a season-best .526 percent with 10 kills.
Ben Weber and
Michael Stahl were next with eight and nine kills apiece, both hitting over .350. Quarterbacking the attack was first-year setter
Gavin Galanski, who posted a career-high 22 assists.
The Sabre offense had triple the amount of errors compared to the Kingsmen, hitting just .135 percent, but the Cal Lutheran defense was nothing short of dominant. Stahl added a season-high six blocks to his stat line while
Borys Horiuk and
Parker Brown tallied five each to out-block Marian 14-3.
It was a solid team win for Cal Lu as 14 different Kingsmen saw the court and nine collected points.
The team will return to action tomorrow, continuing the tournament with another battle against the Sabres. First serve is set for 6 PM in Gilbert Arena.
