THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran baseball team won its non-conference series against the Whitman Blues this weekend, taking the first game yesterday and splitting today's doubleheader.
Cal Lutheran 15, Whitman 0
In the first game, the Kingmsen put together a complete team win. The Cal Lutheran pitching shut out the Blues and tallied 12 total strikeouts.
Leo Bristow started on the mound and went five and two-thirds innings while recording eight strikeouts to get the win.
Joshua Kim and
Matt Campo came in from the bullpen and struck otu two batters each.
The offense did their part and started the scoring in the fourth inning with three runs, thanks to a two-RBI single from
Alec Garcia and another RBI single from Lucas Danielwicz. In the fifth, the Kingsmen increased the lead to 5-0, featuring an RBI single from
Eric Gonzalez.
A four-run seventh inning put the game out of Whitman's reach, as
Daniel Orozco added the exclamation point with a three-run bomb over the right-field wall.
Garcia carried the load with three hits and three RBI.
Wyatt Crosby also had three hits, and Orozco's homerun gave him three RBI.
Cal Lutheran 7, Whitman 12
The Kingsmen continued their aggressive offense from the morning game in the first inning as Danielwicz doubled down the line and knocked in two quick runs. The Blues answered this time with five runs total in the fifth and sixth innings. An RBI triple from Sebastain Smith cut the lead to 3-5 in the bottom half of the sixth.
Whitman took a 10-3 lead, highlighted by a grand slam. Danielwicz stayed hot in the bottom of the seventh and added a Cal Lu run with another RBI single.
Another homerun from the Blues brought the score to 4-12 before the Kingsmen started to chip away with RBI singles from
Kai Caranto and Garcia and a bases-loaded walk from Smith. Howevrer, the CLU comeback was cut short in the eighth inning due to darkness.
Danielwicz had three RBI and three hits, while
Troy Anderson, Caranto, and Garcia each had multi-hit games. Smith also had two RBI.
The Kingsmen move to 7-2 on the season and will take on Cornell College for a three-game series at home starting on Friday, March 7, at 2:00 p.m.
