LA VERNE, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's water polo took down the Augustana Vikings and the Santa Clara Broncos on the first day of the Convergence Tournament.

Chloe Gardhouse got the Regals going with the first goal of the game. Cal Lutheran and Augustana went back-and-forth, but the Regals prevailed and scored two goals out of the hands of
Waileia Lee and
Katie Knight. The Purple & Gold led 4-2 after the first period, and was up 8-5 going into halftime as
Jacqueline Brandon and Knight both found the back of the cage twice in the second quarter.
Brandon completed her hat-trick with another goal in the third as the Regals maintained a 9-7 advantage. After scoring only one goal in the third quater, Cal Lutheran exploded for four goals in the fourth featuring two from Knight, and held the Vikings to just one. The Regals were victorious, 13-8.

Sophie Raquel picked up the win as Brandon and Knight combined for seven goals.
Hudson Geier engineered the offense as she assisted on six of the Regals' 13 goals.
Cal Lutheran 12, Santa Clara 10
Cal Lutheran won a nail-bitter over Division I opponent Santa Clara.
Miranda Miller and Geier held down the offense as Miller had three goals and Geier had another multi-assist game.
The Regals and the Broncos were knotted-up at three at the end of the first quarter, with goals from
Megan Findlay, Knight, and Miller. Cal Lutheran was able to edge out Santa Clara in the second period to take the lead to 7-5 as Knight and Miller found the back of the cage.
The Broncos responded in the third and out-scored the Regals 3-1 to tie the game at eight heading into the fourth. Brandon, however, threw it past the goalie to set the tone for the finale. The Brocos tied it again, but Miller scored another to take a 10-9 lead. Two more goals from
Reyna Clark and
Tori Portillo were just enough for the Regals to beat Santa Clara 12-10.
Cal Lutheran will play its second half of the tournament tomorrow with games against Austin College at 10:15 a.m. and Villanova at 2:00 p.m.
