THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. –
Luke Wechsler pitched a seven-inning complete game, seven different Kingsmen recorded a hit, and Cal Lutheran baseball sent Caltech home early in its 11-1 mercy-rule win on Friday evening at Sparky Anderson Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Wechsler was electric from his first pitch, fanning the game's first two batters en route to six strikeouts. The lone run he allowed in the fourth inning was unearned.
The Kingsmen (4-1, 1-0 SCIAC) bats woke up in the fourth inning and stayed hot the rest of the way.
Four straight hits from
Alec Garcia,
Lucas Danielewicz,
Troy Anderson, and
Sebastian Smith plated the Kingsmen their first two runs.
Eric Gonzalez singled through the left side to drive in a third run, making it 3-1 Kingsmen.
After a one-two-three inning from Wechsler in the top of the sixth, the Kingsmen added three more in their half. Smith doubled to lead off the inning,
Carlos Vega reached via error, and Gonzalez wore a pitch to load the bases.
Wyatt Crosby delivered a bases-clearing double, driving in three for his first RBIs of the season.
Holding a 6-1 advantage heading into the seventh inning, the Kingsmen put up a five-spot to up 10 runs and end the ballgame under the SCIAC's 10-after-seven mercy rule.
