PASADENA, Calif. – Cal Lutheran baseball routed the Caltech Beavers in its doubleheader on Saturday to cap off a three-game series. The Kingsmen won 18-3 in the first game and 7-1 in the afternoon game.
Cal Lutheran 18, Caltech 3
A massive eight-run sixth inning was more than enough for the Kingsmen to come out on top over the Beavers. They started the scoring early with three runs in the second inning which included an RBI single from
Griffin Zitko. Caltech was able to answer with two runs of its own to remain in striking distance.
Cal Lutheran responded with two more runs in the third inning and three in the fourth.
Alec Garcia and
Troy Anderson each recorded RBI singles to left field as a part of the inning. The floodgates opened in the eighth, featuring another RBI single from Anderson, a double by
Sebastian Smith to drive in Anderson, and a double by
Lucas Danielewicz to clear the bases. Two runs in the seventh inning put the mercy rule into effect and finished the 18-3 victory.
Seven separate Kingsmen had multi-hit games, highlighted by three hits each from
Jona Dawson and Zitko.
Joshua Kim and
Oscar Lopez came in in relief, allowing just one run and tallying six strikeouts.

In the afternoon game, Danielewicz stayed hot and opened up the scoring in the first inning with an RBI single. In the fourth,
Wyatt Crosby reached on an error from the Beavers which allowed
Carlos Vega to score, and
Kai Caranto chimed in with an RBI double. Three additional runs in the fifth and sixth innings concluded the 7-1 win.
Danielewicz and Vega both had three hits while Caranto and Garcia drove in two runs each.
Leo Bristow pitched another gem with six scoreless innings and 11 strikeouts to earn the win.
Frank Willius pitched the last three innings out of the bullpen and recorded five strikeouts.
