BROWNWOOD, Tex. – For the second time in their Texas road trips, both Cal Lutheran men's and women's tennis swept their opponents. Facing off against Howard Payne on Monday, neither the Kingsmen nor the Regals dropped even one set, gaining a pair of dominant 7-0 victories.
The duos of
Ethan Sherwood/
Loup Sudre,
Frederick Otto/
Andy Ai, and
Jake Anderson/Jakob Buhler all won their sets comfortably, controlling the doubles team point and early advantage for the Kingsmen.
After a blistering start to the season, including a SCIAC Athlete of the Week honor,
Ethan Sherwood would sit out the singles matches, giving way for his teammates to garner valuable experience.
Ai played the #1, followed by Audre,
Carlo Drewelow, Otto, Anderson, and Buhler. Each player won in straight sets, with Drewelow capturing a double bagel, Sudre letting up just one set, and Anderson cruising 6-3, 6-0. Buhler started off hot with a 6-0 first set before running into some resistance in the second. He would prevail with a 7-5 win for the match.
This win closes out a successful road trip for the Kingsmen, going 3-1 with dominant wins and a narrow defeat. They will soon begin SCIAC play, hosting Pomona-Pitzer this Friday, Feb. 21 at 3pm.
The Regals completed their impressive trip to the Lone Star State with another 7-0 win, terrorizing their opponents with four consecutive sweeps. They won every point in all four matches.
