MEQUON, Wis. – Cal Lutheran men's volleyball produced a season-best .478 hitting percentage to get back to their winning ways, sweeping Concordia University on Thursday night.
The match saw 11 different Kingsmen record a kill with seven of them impressing for at least a .500 clip.
Michael Stahl was at the forefront of the attack with 11 kills, while
Ben Weber and
Jordan Cooper followed closely behind with nine each.
Set one began with a ton of back-and-forth action, but Cal Lutheran was able to maintain its lead with ease. Weber was on fire from the left side, leading the team with five kills to open the match.
"It was one of the best hitting performances for myself and the team as a whole," Weber said. "I thought we played really clean as a team and limited our errors well".
In just the first set, the Kingsmen were able to take advantage of eight Falcon errors while posting a .500 team percentage to take a 1-0 lead.
Also making his mark was
Borys Horiuk, who was strong in the middle and at the service line with seven kills, three blocks, and the team's only two service aces.
In the final set, three consecutive kills from Cooper and one more from
Matthew Wilcox gave Cal Lutheran an early four-point advantage.
Up 7-2, setter
Nathan Diaz was called from the bench and immediately recorded his first pair of assists as a Kingsman. He went on to swing his first Cal Lu kill, extending the lead to nine a few points later. Also making his debut was freshman
Riley Petesch, who had two kills, one block, and a dig in the finale.
Wilcox closed out the set with a kill from the middle and the Kingsmen soared away with a sweep, hitting 0.548 in the third compared to Concordia's .355.
"A great first win to start the trip in Milwaukee," said Head Coach
Kevin Judd. "We hope to build on that momentum as we take on Lakeland tomorrow night".
Cal Lutheran will head north to Plymouth, Wisconsin to face the Muskies tomorrow at 4 PM PT.
