Regals Sweep Occidental in Dominant Fashion

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's volleyball (16-5, 9-4 SCIAC) delivered a dominant performance on Saturday evening, sweeping Occidental (4-17, 2-11 SCIAC) 25-9, 25-17, 25-22 at home. The Regals controlled the match from start to finish with sharp passing, efficient hitting, and a balanced attack.

Cal Lutheran came out firing, immediately establishing control with a kill from Kaylee Clayton. Occidental briefly kept pace, but the Regals quickly regained momentum, stringing together a series of kills from Kennedy Smith, Madeline Magnani, Tarin Rueckert, and Makenna Kawamura. CLU's balanced attack saw multiple players contributing offensively, while the defense capitalized on Occidental errors. The Regals maintained consistent pressure, eventually closing the set at 25-9 after a final service ace.

The second set saw more of the same dominance as Kawamura distributed the ball effectively, with Rueckert and Smith continuing to score consistently. Aby Tibesar added key kills, keeping the pressure on and propelling the Regals to a 25-17 set win.

The third set proved to be the most competitive of the match as Occidental tightened its defense and traded points early. Cal Lutheran, however, showed composure down the stretch. Tibesar and Emily Ford contributed clutch kills at the net, while Clayton and Smith once again came through in crucial moments to seal the match. The Regals closed the set 25-22, completing the sweep in front of a home crowd.

Kawamura led the way with 25 assists, while Clayton added 12 kills and Smith contributed 11, pacing the offense. The Regals' consistent play and energy helped them earn another conference victory as they continue their season.
