REDLANDS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's soccer (2-10-5, 1-6-5 SCIAC) closed out its 2025 season on Saturday night with a hard-fought 2-1 loss on the road against Redlands (8-6-4, 6-3-3 SCIAC).
The Bulldogs struck first just 23 seconds into the match, capitalizing on a break-away that was slotted into the bottom left corner. Cal Lutheran goalkeeper
Isaak Tanaka dove to make the save but couldn't get a hand on it, giving Redlands an early 1-0 lead.
Cal Lutheran wasted no time responding. Less than a minute later,
Shaw Nishizawa buried a header off a corner kick from
Kane Reese, evening the score at 1-1 and giving Nishizawa his first goal of the season.
Redlands regained the lead in the 14th minute off a header from a corner, making it 2-1. From there, both defenses tightened up, with Cal Lutheran creating a few strong opportunities at the end of the first half, including a shot from
Alejandro Loza and a header from
Jackson Endsley.
In the second half, the Kingsmen continued to push for the tying goal, keeping steady pressure on Redlands. Tanaka anchored the defense with a strong performance, recording seven saves to keep the Kingsmen within reach.
Despite a late corner kick and several close chances in the final minutes, Cal Lutheran couldn't find the back of the net again, falling just short in the season finale.
The Kingsmen finished the night with eight total shots, four on goal, while the Bulldogs tallied 16 shots, nine on target. Cal Lutheran held firm defensively, but Redlands' early set pieces ultimately proved to be the difference in the 2-1 result.
