THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.— Cal Lutheran women's volleyball (9-3, 2-2) earned a straight-set victory over the Redlands Bulldogs (8-5, 2-3) in Gilbert Arena on Saturday, Oct. 4.
Pregame, Head Coach
Kellee Roesel was honored for surpassing 400 career victories as head coach. Roesel is the winningest volleyball coach in university history.
Both teams traded points early in the opening frame, but Cal Lutheran's steady offense helped them pull away late with a 25-20 first-match victory.
Despite Redlands keeping it close with 11 kills, the Regals' efficiency (.250 hitting percentage) proved the difference.
In the second set, the Regals hit their usual stride and played confidently on offense, recording a match-high 15 kills with a .361 hitting percentage. Veteran Regals setters
Kylee Grimm and
Makenna Kawamura effectively diversified the offensive options for their hitters, keeping Redlands on their toes with each attack.
The third set saw the most errors made by the Regals, yet they remained composed and held a strong lead against the Bulldogs through the rest of the set. Hitters
Kaylee Clayton,
Emily Ford, and
Madeline Magnani made an impact at the net, recording 10, 9, and 6 kills respectively throughout the match.
