Logan Bowers became the fifth Kingsmen in five games to receive a SCIAC Athlete of the Week (AOW) honor, as he was named Special Teams AOW for his efforts on the road against La Verne last weekend. In Cal Lutheran's 23-19 victory, Bowers blocked two extra point attempts.
The Leopards scored a touchdown early in the third quarter to take a 13-3 lead. On the PAT, Bowers burst through the middle of the o-line to get his paws on the ball, keeping the deficit to 10 points.
The Kingsmen eventually held a three-point lead early in the fourth quarter, but another La Verne touchdown swung the momentum in the other direction. Again, Bowers could not be contained on the PAT attempt, getting his hands on the kick. He recovered it with a chance to get two points back for Cal Lutheran, but he was tracked down after a long dash. This play kept Cal Lutheran down just a field goal, taking pressure off the offense down the stretch.
Even though he was recognized for his work on special teams, the senior inside linebacker from Bakersfield had a great game on defense as well. Bowers led his team in tackles with seven (six solo) and added 0.5 TFL.
Bowers and the Kingsmen will look to continue their perfect start to the season with homecoming weekend up next, hosting Chapman at 7pm on Saturday.
