THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's soccer (2-8-2, 1-4-2 SCIAC) dropped a close match to UC Santa Cruz (6-5-1) on Saturday evening, losing a 1-0 defensive battle. Before the game, the Kingsmen honored their 13 seniors–

Alejandro Loza,
Alijah Mexia,
Nico Calderone,
Kane Reese,
Jack Gominiak, and
Skyler McElhannon.
Tanaka had an outstanding start to the game in goal with six saves in the first 28 minutes. In that time frame, Cal Lutheran got off five shots, but none of them were able to hit the back of the net.
The Banana Slugs were able to get on the board in the 33rd minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Tanaka recorded his seventh save of the first half in the 41st minute as Cal Lutheran entered the break down 1-0.
Loza came out of halftime firing, with four shot attempts in the next 10+ minutes.
Tanaka notched a couple more saves in the second half to give him an impressive total of nine on the day, a career-high for the Cal Lutheran senior goalkeeper.
In the end, the Kingsmen were unable to get on the scoreboard, falling to UC Santa Cruz 1-0.
Loza led the team with six shot attempts.
Cal Lutheran will look to rebound this Wednesday evening when it hosts Occidental at 7pm.
