THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's volleyball was quick to recover from last night's five set defeat, sweeping Wisconsin Lutheran this afternoon, 25-22, 25-16, 25-11.
Head Coach
Kevin Judd said, "after a tough loss last night, we knew today was about bouncing back and holding ourselves accountable–both on the court and to each other. The team really stepped up, and it showed in our performance".
The Kingsmen put it all together to dominate the Warriors, holding them to a .117 attack while hitting a season-best .356 of their own.
Graduate student
Jordan Cooper led with 13 kills (.320 pct) and three service aces. He also added two blocks and five digs.
Ben Weber and
Michael Stahl both followed with seven kills apiece, and senior
Borys Horiuk led with five total blocks.
"I think we did a great job bouncing back after a bit of a wake up call last night," Weber added. "We had some struggle finding a good rhythm with a couple new guys on the court, but I'm proud of how we responded today, especially in the last two sets."
Freshman setter
Keaton Hendry kept the Kingsmen offense moving with 29 assists, while Libero
Braden Gonzales produced eight digs.
The final set of the match saw 12 different Kingsmen in action, with
Connor Crawford,
Aidan Godfrey,
Matthew Wilcox,
Landen Meonske,
Braden Swenningsen, and
Gavin Galanski coming off the bench.
Crawford had one kill and three big blocks, and Godfrey added another kill and back-to-back aces.
"This strong win gives us the confidence we need heading into a challenging weekend," said Judd. "I'm proud of how they responded and came together".
Next, Cal Lutheran will travel north to take on a quartet of AVCA ranked opponents. First up is No. 15 UC Santa Cruz on Friday, January 17 at 5 PM.
