GETTYSBURG, Pa. - JP Melgoza scored the lone goal for Cal Lutheran men's soccer as the Kingsmen played Gettysburg College to a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon.
Both teams were unable to get into a groove in the first half, as most of the opening 45 minutes were played in the midfield. The game was still scoreless at the half.
Just one minute after the Bullets (1-1-2) scored to make it 1-0, a great ball by Joel Wollin set up Melgoza, who one-timed a shot from distance to tie it up. Melgoza's goal, his second of the year, came in the 68th minute.
In the 88th minute, Wollin had an opportunity to take the lead late, but just missed a game-winner off the right woodwork.
Gen Katashiba started at goalkeeper for the Kingsmen and made two saves. The defensive back end of Jack Gominiak, Lance Park, Jordan Becker, and Caleb Merril all gave 90-minute contributions in the match.
The Kingsmen conclude their two-game span in Pennslyvania and now face their biggest test of the season. They travel to Texas to take on Trinity (TX.), who received Top 25 votes, on Friday, Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. PST.
