Schelotto, Loza Score as Kingsmen Roll Past Soka

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - Maximo Schelotto and Alejandro Loza netted their first goals of the season to help Cal Lutheran men's soccer roll past Soka University with another 2-1 victory.

The Kingsmen (2-0-0) dominated from the opening whistle, outshooting the Lions (1-4-0) 11-2 in the first half. The early pressure turned into early success for the Kingsmen, as two of those 11 first-half shots found the back of the net to propel them to a commanding 2-0 lead.

Schelotto gave the Kingsmen a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute, finishing a smooth transition attack from the Kingsmen with his right foot. Schelotto finished the match with seven shots taken and five on goal.

In the 39th minute, the Kingsmen found success in transition once more. Tika Kakimoto led the counterattack, showing off his speed by beating the Lions' defenders and feeding a beautiful pass to Loza, who tapped it in to give the Kingsmen a two-goal lead.

Gen Katashiba started in goal and made two saves. With the win over the Lions, Katashiba and the Kingsmen both boast a 2-0 record.

The Kingsmen look to take this momentum and make it a 3-0 start to the season as they begin a four-game road trip starting at Messiah University. They take on the Falcons on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 4 p.m. PST.
