CLAREMONT, Calif. — Sarah Bjornson won the high jump and was runner-up in the pole vault to lead Cal Lutheran track and field at the SCIAC Championships.
The championships were held on Saturday and Sunday at Pomona-Pitzer's Stehle Track. The women's team was seventh with 34 points and the men's team was eighth with 15.
Bjornson won the high jump as she cleared 1.62 meters. She was runner-up in the in the pole vault as she cleared 3.35m.
The Regals and Kingsmen had three fourth-place finishes as Camden Hyde, Niani Jones, and Cheyanne Rodriguez just missed the podium. Hyde was fourth in the long jump with 6.82m, Jones recorded 5.48m in the long jump and Rodriguez had 43.08m in the hammer throw.
The teams had three student-athletes put up top-10 marks. Jones, Rodriguez, and Eric Talbert all had the seventh best mark in program history. Jones had 5.48 in the long jump, Rodriguez had 32.68m in the javelin, and Talbert had 32:09.85 in the 10000 meter run.
The teams had 13 more top-10 finishes. Logan Abounader was fifth in the discus with 39.88m, Hyde and Darrin Parham were seventh in the triple jump with 13.02m, Jones was eighth in the triple jump with 10.83m, Rodriguez was ninth in the discus with 34.86m and the javelin with 32.68m, Bella Fuentes was ninth in the 100 hurdles with 18.02 seconds, Talbert was 10th in the 10000 meter run with 32:09.85, Logan Abounader was 10th in the javelin with 41.37m, and Hyde was 10thin the high jump with 1.72m.
In relays, the Regals 4x400 had the best finish and was sixth. Jennyfer Hernandez Rosas, Crystal Rosales, Aisha Mohammad Joji, and Bjornson clocked a time of 4:12.91. Both teams were seventh in the 4x100 relay. Caleb Berry, Jonathan Borjas, Brady Karsten, and Darrin Parham had a time of 45.62 while Hernandez Rosas, Rosales, Mohammed Joji and Carly Christensen had 51.33. The men's 4x400 relay of Karsten, Borjas, Matthew Crellin, and Max Segeberg were eighth with 3:40.61.
