VENTURA, Calif. — Andy Ai of Cal Lutheran men's tennis won the consolation final at the Ojai Tournament on Saturday afternoon. It was the 122nd year of the annual tournament and the Kingsmen had six individuals and three doubles teams competing.
After falling in the main draw round of 32, Ai made his run on the consolation side. He capped off the tournament by winning the consolation final 6-2, 6-4.
Loup Sudre made it the farthest in the main draw. He opened the tournament by winning 6-1, 6-2 in the round of 32. He won the round of 16 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, and the quarterfinals 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. He made it to the semifinals but fell 1-6, 3-6.
Also competing in singles play were Jake Anderson, Jakob Buhler, Raphael Simon, and James Truong.
In doubles play, Sudre and Buhler shined in the main draw. The duo won in the round of 16 8-6 and the quarterfinals 8-5. The Kingsmen fell in the semis 0-8 coming up just short of the doubles final. The two other doubles teams were Ai and Truong and then Frederick Otto and Anderson.
The Kingsmen now await a committee's decision for the NCAA Championship.
