THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Jessica Waters went yard twice for her fifth and sixth home runs of the season, but Cal Lutheran softball ultimately fell to Pomona-Pitzer 11-5 in game one of the series on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After the Sagehens (14-16, 6-7 SCIAC) scored the game's first run in the top of the second, the Regals (9-12, 6-5 SCIAC) put up a four-spot to take the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Danielle Diaz was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and Waters homered the next batter to give the Regals the lead. Emily Blank reached via a fielder's choice, Ahlyssa Guzman tripled to drive her in, and Nadia Collins' RBI single capped off the big inning.
Waters' second homer of the game came in the bottom of the sixth when she got a hold of one and sent it up and over the left-field fence for the Regals' fifth run.
Ashlynn Flinchum (L) held the Sagehens to one run through the first three innings, but the Sagehens exploded for five runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth to make it 11-4. Ally Forbell entered the game out of the bullpen in the fifth inning and pitched the last 2.2 innings.
