WHITTIER, Calif. — Jessica Waters hit her fourth home run of the season as the Regals cut a four-run deficit to one, but Cal Lutheran softball dropped game one of its series against Whittier 4-3 on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Making her 10th start of the season, Ashlynn Flinchum (L) struck out the side in the second inning but the Poets (12-13, 3-7 SCIAC) put up four runs in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead.
After a Danielle Diaz walk to lead off the fourth, Waters answered with a two-run homer to get the Regals (9-11, 6-4 SCIAC) on the board. With two outs, Abby Strong doubled to keep the inning alive, and Emily Blank followed it up with another double to make it 4-3.
Flinchum was stellar the rest of the way, allowing just one hit after the third inning to keep the Regals within one down the stretch, but they couldn't create any more scoring opportunities.
