Flinchum Throws Complete Game as Regals Split Doubleheader

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Ashley Flinchum threw a complete-game shutout in game one of Cal Lutheran softball's doubleheader against Baldwin Wallace. The Regals took game one 3-0 but fell to the Yellow Jackets 8-4 in game two on Monday afternoon.

GAME ONE: Regals 3, Yellow Jackets 0
After Flinchum (3-0) struck out the side in the top of the first inning, the Regals (3-5) scored all three of their runs in the home half of the first. Olivia Vargas doubled to right center to drive in Nadia Collins and Brooke DeSmet. Hanna Booth knocked in Vargas with an RBI single to make it 3-0, where the score would stay until the end.

Flinchum was dominant in her 7.0 innings of work, giving up only six hits and a walk while striking out six.

GAME TWO: Regals 4, Yellow Jackets 8
The Yellowjackets (3-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the top of the first and the Regals got on the board with a run in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a Jessica Waters sacrifice fly.

Down 6-1, after the Yellowjackets scored in the second and third innings, the Regals started to chip away at the deficit. Collins tagged up and scored from second base on a fly-ball out from Vargas in the third. In the fourth, Booth drove in her second run of the day with a single, worked her way to third base, and was driven in by Emily Blank to make it just a 6-4 game.

The Yellowjackets then scored two insurance runs in the sixth inning to make it 8-4 and the Regals were retired in the bottom of the sixth and seventh.

UP NEXT
The Regals will play two exhibition games tomorrow against Saint Katherine before resuming their schedule with a doubleheader against Carnegie Mellon (1-1) on Wednesday, March 6 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
