Pitching Dominates in Low-Scoring Doubleheader with Williams

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Starting pitchers Ashlyn Flinchum and Casey Edwards both gave solid outings in the circle for the Regals, but Cal Lutheran softball fell in two low-scoring affairs in its doubleheader against Williams on Sunday afternoon.

GAME ONE: Regals 0, Ephs 1
Despite taking the decision loss, Flinchum (L) was stellar in her second 7.0-inning performance of the season, surrendering just one run on three hits while striking out four.

The Regals' (3-7) best opportunities to score came in the first and sixth innings. Nadia Collins walked in the Regals' very first at-bat and got to second on a wild pitch and Ashley Membrere singled and stole second in the sixth, but couldn't come around to score.

- Flinchum (3-1): 7.0 IP, 3 H, BB, ER, 4 K's
- Collins: 0-1, BB
- Membrere: 1-1

GAME TWO: Regals 1, Ephs 3
Trailing 3-0 in the final frame, the Regals were able to push across a run and get the tying run to first base in the bottom of the seventh inning. Oliva Vargas kicked off the inning with a double, the Regals' lone extra-base hit of the day, and Jessica Waters knocked in Kali Strahm, who pinch-ran for Vargas. Ahlyssa Guzman singled with two outs to extend the inning, but the Regals couldn't keep it going with runners on first and second.

Edwards (L) pitched 6.0 innings and kept the Ephs (2-0) off the scoreboard for the first five innings of the contest and Brooke DeSmet threw a shutout inning in relief.

- Edwards (0-3): 6.0 IP, 8 H, BB, 3 ER
- DeSmet: 1.0 IP, H
- Waters: 2-3, RBI
- Vargas: 1-3, 2B
- Booth: 1-3
- Emily Blank: 1-3
- Guzman: 1-1
