REDLANDS, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran men's and women's track and field team headed to the University of Redlands on Saturday afternoon for SCIAC #2.

"Today's weather was some of the worst I have ever seen at a meet in Southern California," Head Coach Brett Halvaks said. "Nonetheless, the team adapted and competed well in very tough conditions. We are looking forward to growing from this experience and competing at Pomona Pitzer next weekend."

Fatima Cervantes led the teams by winning the 400 hurdles with one minute and 18.93 seconds. The Regals 4x400 relay also won as Jennyfer Hernandez Rosas, Crystal Rosales, Fatima Cervantes, and Sarah Bjornson recorded a time of 4:19.83. The Regals and Kingsmen combined for seven runner-up finishes. Individually, Bjornson and Cheyanne Rodriguez both had two, and Sebastian Sawyer added one.

Bjornson took home silver in short-distance running events. She clocked 13.33 in the 100 dash and 27.58 in the 200. Cheyanne Rodriguez dominated the throwing events with two silvers. She had a throw of 39.75 meters in the hammer and 27.01m in the javelin. Sawyer was second in the 3000m steeplechase with 10:32.36. The 4x100 relay teams were also the runner-up. Johnathan Borjas, Caleb Berry, Matthew Crellin, and Brady Karsten clocked 46.11 while Hernandez Rosas, Rosales, Aisha Mohammed Joji, and Carly Christensen had 53.79.

The Regals turned in two third-place finishes as Bella Fuentes crossed the finish line with 18.99 in the 100 hurdles and Dinkenesh Coltvet had 28:55.70 in the 5000 run.

The teams were fifth in six more events and top-10 in two more. The top finishers were Logan Abounader in the hammer (fifth, 30.26m) and javelin (34.30m), Brooke Hougo in the 800 run (fifth, 2:44.94), Karsten in the 400 dash (fifth, 56.23), Rosales in the 400 dash (fifth, 1:07.92), Max Segeberg in the 800 run (2:09.16), Hougo in the 1500 run (sixth, 5:31.84), Eric Talbert in the 1500 run (10th, 4:19.94), and Joey Papa in the 100 dash (13th, 12.43).
