CLAREMONT, Calif. — No. 5 Cal Lutheran women's water polo went on the road as they took on No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday afternoon. The Regals fell to the Sagehens 17-3.
Bethany Metcalfe recorded a hat trick to lead the Regals (5-16, 1-4 SCIAC) against the top team in the country, the Sagehens (12-10, 5-0).
Miranda Miller had a team-high two drawn exclusions and Sophie Raquel had a team-high three steals. Raquel was also in goal and made eight saves.
The Sagehens took control of the game early on and scored the first five goals. The Regals broke through just before the end of the quarter as Metcalfe netted her first goal with five seconds left.
The No. 1 team continued to be an issue as the Sagehens outscored the Regals 3-1 and 4-1 in the second and fourth quarters, respectively. The Sagehens shut out the Regals 5-0 in the third as they cruised to the win.
The Regals look to get back in the win column and are at Whittier on Wednesday at 7 pm.
