THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Josh Quinn tripled and hit his first home run of the season, but Cal Lutheran baseball fell to Pacific Lutheran 6-4 in its final game of the three-game set against the Lutes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Oscar Lopez (L) put up zeros for the first three innings of his outing for the Kingsmen (12-6, 4-5 SCIAC), and the offense struck first in the bottom half of the third as Noah Matsumoto and Alec Garcia both took advantage of errors to score.
The Lutes put up a big inning in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs in the frame to make it 5-2. The Kingsmen answered back thanks to an RBI double from Matsumoto that scored Blake Wink in the bottom half of the fourth and a solo homer by Quinn in the fifth to make it a one-run contest, but couldn't push across another to tie the game up. Runners left on base would haunt the Kingsmen as they left runners in scoring position in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings.
The Kingsmen used six pitchers out of the bullpen, with Frank Willius shining in relief. The first-year left-hander struck out five while only allowing one hit and one walk in 3.0 innings of work.
