LOS ANGLES — Troy Anderson and
Lucas Danielewicz homered,
Luke Wechsler pitched all 9.0 innings, and Cal Lutheran baseball defeated Occidental 11-5 in game one of the series on Thursday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After the Tigers (8-17, 4-6 SCIAC) homered in the bottom of the first inning, the Kingsmen (13-6, 5-5 SCIAC) put up a six spot in the top of the second, bringing 10 hitters to the plate in the inning alone, and led on the scoreboard the rest of the way.
Noah Matsumoto got the Kingsmen on the board with an RBI single and
Gordon Richardson followed it up with a two-RBI single of his own with the bases loaded.
Josh Quinn hit a sacrifice fly to score
Carlos Vega, making it 4-1, and
Lucas Danielewicz capped the big inning off with a double for his team-leading 21st and 22nd RBI of the season.
The Tigers cut their deficit to three runs, but Danielewicz answered in the fifth inning with a solo shot to make it 7-3, his first home run of the season. Anderson followed suit just an inning with his fourth home run of the year, a two-run bomb to left field to extend the Kingsmen lead to six runs, 10-4.
Wechsler (W) was a workhouse in his first complete game performance of the season, limiting any big-inning threats from the Tigers.
