LOS ANGELES — Niani Jones won two events and Sarah Bjornson and Darrin Parham won one as the Cal Lutheran women's and men's track and field teams competed at SCIAC #1 on Saturday afternoon.
Jones dominated the jumping events, taking the long and triple jump. She had a distance of 5.07 meters in the long jump and 10.38 in the triple jump. Bjornson won the high jump as she cleared 1.50m and Parham recorded a distance of 11.67 in the triple jump.
The teams had seven runner-up finishes with the Regals having six and the men having one. Cheyanne Rodriguez had three of them as she impressed in the throwing events. She was second in the hammer with 37.80m, the javelin with 26.41m, and the discus with 31.42m.
The runner-up finishes continued with Bjornson in the pole vault with 2.89m, Fatima Cervantes in the 400-meter hurdles with 1:16.15, Bella Fuentes in the high jump with 1.45m, and Sebastian Sawyer in the 3000-meter steeplechase with 10:34.93.
The Regals took third place in two more events and the Kingsmen did in one. Fuentes was third in the 400-meter hurdles with 1:23.92 and Talbert did so in the 5000-meter run with 15:42.53. The Regals 4x400 relay team of Bjornson, Jennyfer Hernandez Rosas, Crystal Rosales, and Cervantes was third with 4:23.96.
The Kingsmen and Regals are back in action next weekend on March 9th for the Oxy Distance Carnival/Spring Break Classic.
