Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

Metcalfe Breaks Program Record with 10 Goals

LOS ANGELES — Bethany Metcalfe set the program record with 10 goals in the game as Cal Lutheran women's water polo defeated Penn State Behrend 21-3 on Friday afternoon. The Regals also defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 9-8 on day one of the Convergence Tournament. 

Metcalfe broke the record which was previously held by Lexi Rond and set in 2022. Metcalfe made her 10 goals on just 12 shots. With the two wins, the Regals improved to 3-11 on the year. 

Game One: Cal Lutheran 9, CSU Monterey Bay 8
Metcalfe was a dominant force in both games and had a hat trick while Katie Knight and Lauren Lohmeier had two each. Hudson Geier moved the ball around and dished out four assists. Izzy De Souza was in goal and made eight saves. 

The game remained almost even all the way through. It was tied 3-3 after the first quarter and Monterey Bay was up 5-4 at half. The Regals took the lead in the third, outscoring their opponent 3-1, and were up 7-6 with eight minutes left. The Regals scored the first two goals of the quarter and never looked back as they won the game. 

Game Two: Cal Lutheran 21, Penn State Behrend 3 
Metcalfe impressed with 10 goals and Lohmeier was next with three. Lohmeier, Geier, and Hilda Arellano kept the offense moving with two assists each. De Souza, Vianne Will, and Sophie Raquel all saw action in the cage. De Souza made three saves and Will made 10.

The Regals showed domination in the first quarter as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead. The offense kept coming as they scored another eight goals in the third quarter and ran away with the game. 

The Regals continue the Convergence Tournament tomorrow. They take on UC Merced at 8 am and Fresno Pacific at noon.
