ORANGE, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's lacrosse hit the road on Saturday afternoon and took on the Panthers from Chapman University.
The Regals fell to the Panthers 19-7 and are 0-2 on the year. They started the year with conference competition and have one more before non-conference opponents.
Giselle Bonilla, Malina Diaz, and Sydney Shin led the offense with two goals each, and Shin and Josie Oparanaku added an assist. Bonilla is the program's career-leading scorer and continues to add to her total. She was 26 before the year started.
The offense had 11 draw controls on the day. Diaz had the most with four and Shin and Meghan Angus had three. Shin and Angus are at the top of the top-10 list in draw controls.
Oparanaku led the defense with three ground balls while Shin, Bella Bravo, and Sydnee Hill added two. Hill had a team-high two caused turnovers and three more Regals had one.
The Panthers started the scoring and made it six straight before the Regals answered. The Regals added three goals in the second quarter as they kept battling with the Regals. The teams traded goals the rest of the way as the Panthers took the contest.
The Regals continue their season on the road and are at Whittier on Wednesday at 7 pm.
