DE PERE, Wisc. — No. 5 Cal Lutheran rolled through two opponents on Saturday as they swept Calvin 25-18, 25-20, 25-15, and St. Norbert 25-20, 25-17, 25-18.
The Kingsmen improved to 13-4 on the year and have swept three of their last four opponents.
Jordan Cooper led the way against Calvin and had 12 kills. Michael Stahl was next with seven kills and Borys Horiuk, Ben Weber, and Matthew Wilcox had five. Taylor Marks was one dig shy of a double-double with 29 assists and nine digs. Logan Marks was big on the defensive end with 11 digs and Horiuk had four total blocks.
Up 11-10 in the first set, the Kingsmen used a 10-2 run and took a commanding 19-11 lead. They won the first set and carried that momentum into the second set, taking an early 6-1 lead. The Knights fought back and cut the deficit to 19-17. The Kingsmen remained composed, not letting the Knights get any closer, and took a 2-0 match lead. The Kingsmen turned up the heat in the third set and won easily as they swept the Knights.
Stahl had the most kills in the win against St. Norbert and had 14. Cooper was just short of double-digits with nine and Weber had eight. T. Marks continued to move the ball around and dished out 26 assists. Stahl and L. Marks led the defense with eight kills and Cooper had three solo blocks.
The Kingsmen took control of their match against St. Norbert early on. Up 12-8, a four-point run gave them a commanding lead as they had an early 1-0 match lead. The second set remained close and was tied at 13-13. The Kingsmen used a 6-0 run as they rolled to a 2-0 match lead. The impressive play continued throughout the third set as the Kingsmen picked up their seventh sweep of the year.
The Kingsmen continue their season on Sunday with Rockford at 8 am PT and MSOE at 11 am.
