WHITTIER, Calif. – In their final road game of the season, the Cal Lutheran women's volleyball team was knocked down by Whittier College on Friday night, 22-25, 25-18, 14-25, 16-25.
The Regals (11-13, 6-9 SCIAC) hit .134 for the game, but the Poets held a .184 percentage, surpassing Cal Lutheran in both kills and service aces.
Kira Mortensen was a bright spot for the Regals in the loss, collecting 11 kills and seven blocks. Behind her were
Sophia Muller and
Caitlin Murphy who had seven and six kills respectively.
Tess Holbert led with 15 assists, eight digs, and two service aces while
Tarin Rueckert recorded a season-high 13 digs.
Keegan Corley also added three aces and 12 digs.
In the hard-fought match, the Regals recorded their longest point streak of the year with nine in a row in an attempt at a comeback in the set one. The run featured kills from Mortensen, Murphy, and
Kaylee Clayton along with all three of Corley's service aces.
Whittier (19-7, 11-4 SCIAC) was led by Mia D'Amato's 13 kills and five blocks. Libero Jessica Ferreira had 16 digs.
Cal Lutheran returns home tomorrow for senior night and their final home game of the season, as they continue to battle for a spot in the SCIAC Tournament. They host Chapman at 6:00 PM and will honor the seniors in a pregame ceremony.
