Seniors Lead Regals to a Season-Ending Victory

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's volleyball celebrated their seniors with a win on Senior Night, concluding their season in bittersweet fashion as they took down Chapman in four sets.

The Regals finished 7-9 in SCIAC play and 12-15 overall as they defeated the Panthers 25-18, 25-21, 23-25, 25-9. Before the match, the team honored their graduating seniors Rayne Selhorst, Miranda Chan, Sophia Muller, Kira Mortensen, and Tess Holbert.

After the ceremony, the Regals got straight to business and took the first two sets in the head to head battle for the fifth seed in the SCIAC Tournament. It was Chapman's third set victory that ultimately took Cal Lutheran out of the race.

The Regals did not let that get to them, however, as they absolutely dominated the final set. Muller was back to serve for a 13-point streak for Cal Lutheran, which featured four kills and two blocks from Mortensen, two kills from Kaylee Clayton, another from Holbert, and back to back Muller service aces.

The seniors left it all on the court as Mortensen led with 17 kills hitting .353. Muller was right behind her with 14 kills and a .400 percentage. They each also posted six and four blocks, respectively. Tess Holbert was integral, collecting a match-high 40 assists along with nine digs, three blocks, one kill, and a service ace. Selhorst also added a kill and Chan had one ace.

Cal Lutheran wrapped up its season with a .480 win percentage, improving upon last season by two wins. Their conference record ties with Chapman for fifth-place finish in the SCIAC regular season.
