Mortensen, Regals Breeze Past Beavers

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Fifth-year Kira Mortensen hit a season-high .643, leading the Cal Lutheran women's volleyball team to breeze past Caltech on Tuesday night 25-10, 25-15, 25-21.

The Regals (11-12, 6-8 SCIAC) hit .347 as a team, which was their second-best attacking effort of the season right behind their first match up with the Beavers on October 15th, where they hit .372.

Head Coach Kellee Roesel said, "That was our best offensive performance to date against a well-coached Caltech team that was coming off a big win over Chapman. I thought our setters did a fantastic job with their decision making and location. Proud of how the team weathered the storm in the third".

Mortensen finished her night with 10 kills and only one error, with Sophia Muller and Alex Hayes next in line with nine and seven kills respectively. Keegan Corley was the top server for the Regals with her second highest match total of three aces, while Hayes and Alexis Holloway added one more each.

Kylee Grimm and Tess Holbert quarterbacked the attack with 19 and 11 assists each, and Corley provided 20 digs. Caitlin Murphy was also solid at the net tallying five blocks.

Caltech (6-17, 3-11 SCIAC) was led by Alisa Shen and Andrea Li with six kills each. Giulia Murgia provided 16 assists and Celine Wu collected 10 digs in the loss.

Cal Lutheran hits the road on Friday, November 8th for another must-win match against Whittier. In their last meeting, the Regals swept the Poets 25-20, 25-19, 25-21. Winning this match would keep a bid to the SCIAC tournament within reach.
