Regals Take Down Tigers on the Road

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran women's volleyball team rebounded from a tough loss on Friday night, taking down Occidental on Saturday in four sets, 25-18, 25-14, 26-28, 26-24.

The Regals (10-12, 5-8 SCIAC) rallied in the first two sets, taking advantage of the Tiger's errors and defensive holes. When they were on, they were on as they recorded multiple scoring streaks of five or more points in a row across all four sets. The win keeps the team at sixth-place in the conference, just a couple crucial wins away from a spot in the SCIAC tournament.

Cal Lutheran hit .167 on the night and were able to claim the win despite Oxy (3-17, 0-13 SCIAC) pushing the limits and evening up with the Regals in almost every statistical category. The two teams were equal 12-12 in blocks, but Cal Lutheran out-aced the Tigers 8-7 and out-dug them 61-60.

Senior Sophia Muller was the star of the show on Saturday, hitting .321 with 13 kills, five blocks, and eight digs. Caitlin Murphy and Kaylee Clayton were close behind her with 12 kills apiece and a combined four blocks.

The Regals had a strong defensive effort led by 21 digs from Keegan Corley and eight blocks from Kira Mortensen. Kylee Grimm also added nine digs, 22 assists, and four service aces.

Cal Lutheran will return home for the last week of regular season play, hosting Caltech (6-16, 3-10 SCIAC) on Tuesday evening. In their last match up, the Regals efficiently swept the Beavers, 25-15, 25-12, 25-14.
