THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's volleyball put up a fight in their rematch with Pomona-Pitzer on Friday night, but ultimately fell in four sets 15-25, 25-23, 23-25, 20-25.
The Sagehens (14-9, 9-4 SCIAC), currently sitting in fourth place in the conference, collected 57 kills in the match, hitting .216 in what was a close battle for the majority of the night. The Regals (9-12, 4-8 SCIAC) on the other hand, hit .144 with 46 kills. They are in sixth place in the SCIAC, battling for a spot in the postseason tournament.
Cal Lutheran was led in the loss by
Kira Mortensen, earning 12 kills and six blocks.
Sophia Muller added another 12 kills of her own and
Tarin Rueckert chipped in nine along with four blocks and 12 digs. The Regals collected 13 blocks total on Friday with
Alex Hayes posting a match-high seven.
Setter
Tess Holbert had an outstanding night despite the defeat, recording a double-double on 17 assists and 12 digs. The senior captain also had all four of the team's service aces in the match.
Pomona-Pitzer was led by Chloe Gill and Paige Mountanos with 13 kills each. Their setter, Jenny Jenks, collected 45 assists on the night.
The Regals look to rebound on Saturday evening as they head to Los Angeles to take on Occidental (3-17, 0-13 SCIAC).
