BREA, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's and women's cross country competed at the SCIAC Championships on Saturday morning at Carbon Canyon Regional Park. Both teams finished eighth as the Kingsmen totaled 234 points and the Regals had 196.
"We have been working towards SCIAC Champs since the team arrived on campus in August," Head Coach
Brett Halvaks. "I am proud of how everyone raced today. They all executed the race plan and gave their best effort".
Eric Talbert was the top finisher for the Kingsmen, coming in 44th place and crossing the finish line at 26:47.5. His performance was third all time for Cal Lutheran on the course.
Sebastian Sawyer was next with a season best for the 8k, coming in 52nd with 27:08.5.
The race continued with
Logan Bury coming in 66th at 27:36.1, which was eighth all time for the course. Then came Nicolas Moore in 83rd, who recorded a personal best for the 8k at 28:58.7.
Also racing for the Kingsmen was
George Gaitanis (92nd, 30:06.5),
Diego Romero (94th, 30:13.2),
Vincent May (102nd, 33:12.4),
Joe Lopez Vasquez (103rd, 34:13.2), and
Ian Skrinde (104th, 38:31.0).
Summer Gelman led the women with a 10th place finish at 22:54.7, earning her First Team All-SCIAC. She is the first Regal to earn a conference honor since 2013, and the first of the men and women Cal Lutheran cross country athletes since 2017.
Behind Gelman was
Alison Orwin, coming in 62nd with 25:13.8. Next were Nataly Vigil Tello and Cordelia Hautekeete in 73rd and 74th with 25:49.9 and 25:53.6 respectively.

Elliette Sinclair (84th, 26:57.2),
Angelina Diaz (85th, 26:59.8),
Evan Edwards (93rd, 28:48.5),
Jackie Prieto (99th, 29:59.4),
Kendall Fleming (101st, 31:35.3),
Dinkenesh Coltvet (102nd, 31:51.6), and
Isabela Garcia-Work (103rd, 31:58.4).
Sinclair, Diaz, Edwards, and Fleming all ran lifetime bests for the 6k.
The teams will continue their season at the NCAA West Regionals on November 16th. Lewis & Clark College will host the race at Milo McIver State Park in Estacada, Oregon.
