THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's volleyball had a tough match up with No. 14 University of La Verne, resulting in a 0-3 loss. The scores for the sets were 12-25, 11-25, and 20-25.
The Regals have faced many nationally ranked teams, with the Leopards being the fourth so far this season. Cal Lutheran is now 1-2 in SCIAC play and 5-6 overall, ranking seventh in the conference.
Kira Mortensen led the way with seven kills.
Sophia Muller was next with five and
Tarin Rueckert had four.
Olivia Fernandes added three,
Tess Holbert and
Chloe Blue contributed two each, and
Kennedy Smith had one to wrap up the Regals attacking.
Holbert also collected 14 assists, Mortensen put up five blocks, and
Keegan Corley led the defense with eight digs.
La Verne was strong from the get go, quickly taking the first two sets from the Regals. Mya Ray was dominant for the Leopards, finding holes in the Cal Lutheran defense with 19 kills.
Like their previous match against Chapman, the Regals fought back hard in the third set. Over the course of the finale, they did not allow La Verne to take more than three points in a row without responding back. Despite closing the Leopards lead to two (20-22), Cal Lutheran could not overcome the deficit, ultimately losing the match in three.
The Regals return to the court for their next conference match on Saturday, October 5th. They will face Redlands on the road at 4:00 PM.
